The 6 Best Pieces of Advice I’ve Received
Wisdom that carried me through my career and life in my 20s.
A couple of years after I finished undergrad, I received a lot of advice, and a lot of it was terrible (I wrote about it here).
Now I’ve had almost a decade to test drive the rest of the advice, and below I’ll share which advice resonated with me the best. It’s advice I took with me as I contemplated a career change, went through grad school, moved cross country, and faced many other challenges.
1. If you’re having trouble making a decision, it’s because you don’t have enough information.
When I was first thinking about my career change, I started to explore my options. I could apply to jobs, go to grad school, or do a BootCamp. My mind spun as I sifted through the high tuition costs of grad school and browsed overwhelming job descriptions that made me feel unqualified. The BootCamps were enticing because of how short the programs were, but would I learn what I wanted to learn? Grad school seemed like a good opportunity, but it was expensive and would take two years.
